RoadWired Digital Daypack

RoadWired Digital Daypack

Carrying around a laptop is what many gamer/geeks do everyday. Why not do it in comfort? The Digital Daypack from RoadWired is a backpack specialized in the task of carrying around your laptop. Not only does it carry it; it protects it. Using a sophisticated protection system, the Digital Daypack can fit any laptop up to a size of 15 x 11.5 x 2. Along with carrying your laptop, the Digital Daypack is fit to carry books and binders for school, electronics and gadgets, and anything else that you need to take with you. With a plethora of pockets, the Digital Daypack may be the best backpack on the market for any geek looking to carry around their supplies.

Exterior Design and Material

The exterior of the backpack is a dark black color. The bag is made from Denier Ballistic Nylon material for the exterior, which is extremely strong and sturdy. The straps on the back of the bag are padded and very comfortable. No matter how heavy the items were that I was carrying, the padded straps always cushioned the weight and made it so I didn't feel like Paul Bunyan dragging a cumbersome axe behind me. These two backpack straps were fully adjustable, and allowed for a perfect fit on a multitude of different heights and sizes. The back of the backpack was also fully padded and very comfortable. One of the coolest parts of the strap system was the two different clip sets, which could be used to strap the bag to your body to better distribute the weight of your luggage. The first clip straps into place just above your chest, and the other one straps below your waist. There are two large padded extensions that hold the waist clips (one on each side) that hug your body when these clips are in use.

Main Compartments

Aside from the largest inside pocket, there are two other main pockets. The first is the smaller of the two, and I found it to be ideal for holding a bunch of CDs, spare change, or maybe a wallet. The second pocket is much larger than the first, and can hold a lot of equipment. To start off, there is a 7 in x 7 in square pocket that has a zipper and can hold anything you would like. Below this zippered pocket is a band of elastic material that can be used to hold any electronic (or anything you put in it) in place. It bends and stretches to hold the item, allowing it to remain in place during movement. Also on the front side of the pocket, there is a clip hanging down that can be used to hold anything with a key hole; namely, a set of keys. As for the back of this pocket, there is a large mesh pocket that can be used to hold a variety of items. Measuring in at about 9in x 9in, there is a ton of stuff you can fit. Above the mesh pocket is a clear card holder, where you can insert an ID card or anything else you can think of.

Now onto the largest pocket; the one that is ideal for holding your laptop. Keep in mind that it is not only suited to protect and carry your laptop, it also has room for books, binders, or any larger objects. The amount of room you have for these items is dependent on the size of your laptop. The bigger your laptop, the larger the protection system will stretch out to be, meaning you will not have as much room for other items.

Laptop Protection System

Getting back to the Protection System… What a great invention and way to protect your laptop. Think of it like a packet that opens up from the top but is secured using a system of straps. There are two distinct sets of straps that are in use with the protection system. One runs from top to bottom, while the other runs from side to side. There is a piece of padded material that comes out and creates a pocket for your laptop. You pull this piece forward and slide your laptop in. Once your laptop is inside the makeshift pocket, you pull another piece of padded material over it, which has half of a clip on it. Now comes the part where you strap the laptop into place. First you must adjust the straps to have the perfect fit for your given laptop. Once you have made the adjustments (which are very easy to do), you clip the side to side and the up and down clips in place, and THERE YOU HAVE IT: a fully protected laptop that is ready to go anywhere.

Overall

The Digital Daypack retails for $170, which is quite a lot of money for a backpack. If you have the money, the Digital Daypack is worth every penny. It protects your laptop, has tons of pockets to carry around anything you want, and is also very comfortable. If you need a backpack to carry everything, this is the one to get.
