Most Apple users are fond of the simple white color of their peripherals: namely the mouse and the keyboard. But in this review, we are going to focus on an accessory for the Apple keyboard. Now that you have confirmed the identity of your keyboard, you can rest assured that you will be able to use this item. iSkin is a company that makes quality cases for many Apple products, most importantly, the iPod. In addition to its myriad of iPod cases, iSkin has also created a way to keep your Apple Keyboard in spiffy condition: the ProTouch XT. This product is designed to fit right over your keyboard and keep it free from dirt, grime, and even the occasional water hazard. Available in Arctic white, sonic blue, or bubblegum pink, the ProTouch XT can protect your keyboard and look good all at the same time.
Lets start off with the “installation” of the protector. Once you take the ProTouch XT out of its package, all that is needed for you to do is lie it directly over the corresponding keyboard keys. The protector itself is merely a thin film of a high-grade silicon product with raised areas for each of the keys on the keyboard. Each raised area is molded to fit the corresponding key, so there are no random spaces in the protector. Once you lay the ProTouch XT on top of the keys and press it down lightly along the sides, you are all ready to go!

Typing with the ProTouch XT changes a multitude of things. As expected, it is near impossible for dirt to squeeze it's way into your keyboard. The ProTouch XT even surrounds the narrow space between the end keys and their plastic base, making it so dirt cannot enter through the sides. The ProTouch XT also greatly reduced the sound of the keys as I pounded away on them. If you are wishing to deaden the sound of your typing, this is a great way to do it. Please note that the ProTouch XT did not completely stifle all sound; it simply muffled it.
It is as easy to clean the ProTouch XT as it is to install it. When you feel that your protector is a little greasy or just plain dirty, all you need to do is take it off the keyboard and run it under water. Once the protector dries, it is ready for use all over again!
To tell you the truth, I prefer typing without the ProTouch XT. Then again, when I don't use the protector, I am at a much higher risk to ruin the keyboard because of dirt and liquid. It all depends on whether or not you need something like this… if you really are worried about protecting your keyboard, this is a great way to go about doing it. After awhile, you will get used to the different texture of the keys when using the protector, its only a matter of time. Just know that before buying it, there will be a difference.
