No Screen for the Pocket Digital 130
Because of this camera's small size, it has no LCD for viewing the picture. The only screen it has is a tiny one for telling you how many pictures are left and information like battery life, self timer, picture size, and sound indication. The lack of a color LCD screen may turn this camera off for some people. At first, I was a little discouraged, but then I remembered the price. This tiny camera retails for $150, so it's not a huge deal that there is no screen. I feel that this camera is most appropriate as a secondary camera. I would rather own a small Canon Powershot to take with me on trips, and then use this camera if I were to go to an amusement park or a mall. Since you cannot insert any type of memory card, you will need to empty the camera's memory constantly if you are taking a lot of pictures. Also, resolution is not that high, meaning you might not want to have your treasured wedding pictures taken with this camera.
Long Battery Life
The camera has a long battery life. This can be asserted to the fact that after a few seconds of idleness, the camera will turn itself off. You also won't be spending any time looking at pictures you have taken, which will save you a lot of battery life. The only way to charge the camera is by plugging the camera into your computer's USB port using the included cable. If you are planning to go on vacation with this camera, make sure you will have a laptop at hand, or else you will not be able to recharge the battery.
Easy Picture Download
Downloading pictures is extremely easy. I would highly suggest installing the included Logitech picture service, which makes downloading hassle free. Once you plug in the camera, a status box automatically comes up asking you what you would like to do, and obviously, you click copy the pictures onto your computer. Once the copy is complete, you can erase all the photos from the memory (smartest option) and then open up “My Logitech Pictures.”
This is basically a folder that stores all of your pictures organized by albums. Every time you download photos, it creates a new album. Inside Logitech Pictures you can converge or delete albums, and even create new ones. This program also allows you to easily resize your pictures, print, set as wallpaper, or email them. You can also view slideshows.
Picture Quality on the Pocket Digital 130
Picture quality varies directly with the conditions you take the photo under. The camera has two resolutions settings: 640 x 480 and 1280 x 1024. If you have the settings correctly configured for your given location, pictures can look decent. Since you can never see what the picture looks like on an LCD screen right after you take it, you may end up taking tons of horrible pictures. Well, that's life.
Overall
To sum this review up, I think the Pocket Digital is a cool camera. It is really up to you if you need it… I wouldn't get it as your only camera, because it doesn't have an LCD and doesn't have extremely high resolutions. If you already have a good camera and have $150 to spend on a smaller one for “spur of the moment” activities, go ahead.
