RoadWired MegaMedia Bag

RoadWired MegaMedia Bag

The MegaMedia Bag is one of RoadWired's solutions for carrying around your laptop as well as the rest of the materials you take to work/school everyday: cell phones, PDA's, CD-ROMS, folders, binders, books, pens and pencils, cables, and anything else that you require. Though some of RoadWired's approaches to carrying these products and more is rather out of the ordinary (The Pod), some of them look like any typical bag. The MegaMedia Bag falls into the second category. But ordinary is a word that does not even begin to describe this product.

36 Pockets on the RoadWired MegaMedia Bag

RoadWired boasts about the 36 pockets and compartments found in the MegaMedia Bag. Let that sink in for a minute… 36 pockets and compartments. That's a lot of space. When you hear 36 pockets, you may conjure up an image of the bag being big, heavy, and ugly-looking because of its size. Get that image out of your head. The MegaMedia Bag is beautiful; slick, stream lined, well designed, and even relatively slim. The bag I have tested came in a black/black color; however, it is also available in a titanium/black color and even a Nappa Leather fabric. The latter will run in at about $300, but if you have the money, you are going to end up with one hell of a nice bag.

General Compartments

Let's talk about the general compartments of the MegaMedia Bag. The front of the bag has a flip up neoprene compartment. You can unzipper it to find a removable pocket with three separate zipper pouches. I haven't really seen this in a lot of laptop bags, but I thought it was a great idea. Way to go RoadWired! When this is flipped up, it reveals three mesh pockets with a zipper. The main pockets of the bag are now exposed. There are four main pockets. Each of these is specialized for certain things, and depending on the junk you carry, you can divvy up your stuff to coincide with the design of the bag. The four paragraphs that follow will go into detail about each of the four main compartments of the bag. Fasten your seatbelts.

The First Compartment: Hold Anything!

The first compartment is full of mesh pockets as well as elastic nylon pockets to keep a plethora of devices in storage. The two mesh pockets run along the backside of the first pocket, and take up the entire side. They are rather long, running in at about 15 inches long and 5 inches wide.

RoadWired MegaMedia Bag

The amount of stuff you can put in here is endless. Spare change, floppies, cables, batteries, Mini DV tapes, cameras, PDA's, MP3 players, anything. I even managed to fit in a CD with a little bit of stretching. The front side of this first main pocket has two strips of an elastic nylon fabric. The bottom strip touches the base of the bag, while the upper strip actually is sealed at the bottom, creating pockets. All of these makeshift pockets are of different sizes and are optimized to hold different things. There are two small compartments ideal for pens and pencils, while there are some pockets of small, medium, and large lengths. I used these pockets for almost all of my electronic devices: a cell phone, PDA, camera, and even a second, third, and fourth camera. In addition to that, I kept Mini DV tapes and batteries for my Canon camera as well as storage cards in these nylon pockets.

Second Compartment

The second main compartment is more spread out than the first, having more generalized pockets. The backside is just one large mesh pocket. Since it takes up the whole entire side, it can fit most anything you'd like. I found it useful for CDs or magazines and pamphlets. Anything you have could go in here. The front side of this main compartment contains a clip, a see-through card holder, and another strap of the elastic nylon material. The clip is good for anything; very sturdy and easy to open. The see-through card holder can fit any card you'd like, and it is easy to insert and remove a card. The elastic strip this time has makeshift pockets of all about the same size.
