Big Mutha Truckers
Big Mutha Truckers. Both the name and the game are original. But is it actually good? Well, one thing I can tell you, the concept sure is. Who wouldn't like to play as some trailer trash guy/gal anxious to compete in a trial by truckin' in order to win Ma Jackson's company?
Choosing a Character
There are four different and unique characters that you can pick from. Each is one of Ma's children. Rawkus, the free willed cowboy/ladies man, Bobbie Sue, the typical trailer trash female, Earl, the largest trailer park fat guy I have ever seen, and Cletus, a disgusting looking creature that can barely talk correctly. Each character has his own persona… each drives his own truck, has his own interior view, and interacts with different people across the game. One thing I really like was how the interior of your truck would vary depending on the character you chose. The interior of Bobbie Sue's truck was positively pink, while Rawkus had a more cowboy look.
The Story
The story goes by telling you that you only have 60 days in the life of one of these crazy characters, and you need to make as much money as possible in order to win the race and get the company. Throughout your sixty days, you will go on different missions in order to gain money, as well as tweak your truck to gain the competitive edge. Even though the tweaking interface is not very detailed, it is enough to make a pleasant separate part of the game that doesn't really require a lot of time or effort.
Repetitive Gameplay
The gameplay is very repetitive, which is the main reason Big Mutha Truckers isn't the best game out there right now.
Since most of the time you will just be driving around, you can't really expect much variety. Since each driver associates with different people, missions are somewhat different. I liked one part where I had to get my truck fixed, and my salesperson was an old Russian communist.
Side humor like this will give you a few chuckles.
Hick State County
Your driving missions will take you throughout Hick State County. The environment is fully interactive, and you can go all over the place: the city, country, etc. There are five cities to explore, each different. One of my favorite experiences during the driving missions occurred when I bumped into a biker. He and his entire gang came after me, each trying to jump onto my truck and destroy it. Of course, you can run each guy over, but it is fun to watch them try and climb up the truck. Besides the bikers, you will also get truck jackers, and corrupt police coming after you. These short distractions are entertaining and somewhat fun.
No Multiplayer and the Replay Value
The lack of multiplayer was a disappointment, and considering the low replay value of the single player game, I was pretty upset. After beating the game with one character, you can always switch to another, but really, is it worth it?
Overall
Big Mutha Truckers was an interesting experience. I did enjoy all the redneck humor, but the game itself is not really that great. There is no multiplayer, and aside from driving around doing missions, there is not much more. If you want a quick little redneck bashing game, pick it up. If you are looking for anything more, you have come to the wrong place.
