To try and envision the intense fighting and bravery witnessed during the Delta Force mission in Somalia, you may have rented the movie, Black Hawk Down. If this was not enough for you, you can try out the game from Novalogic.
Once you enter the main screen of the game, you hear the sad music you heard in Black Hawk Down, the movie. What a similarity...
The game has both single player and multiplayer options. In single player mode, you have three different campaigns at a time to complete. Once you complete one of them, it is moved into an 'instant action' section. From here, you can replay them at your own will.
In all the missions, I found good graphics and interesting teamplay.
In one of the missions, you are to protect your convoy, and it is always nice to know that you have loyal teammates at your side. Just like in real life, teammates will die if they are shot and will try and complete the mission objectives just as hard as you. Since each mission is different, you don't feel like you are in the same shack-ridden Somalia every single time.
The enemy AI, however was not as good as I would have liked. I know most of the Somalians were on drugs, but really, this is just pathetic. Sometimes, guys will just stand there and wait for you to shoot them before they even react. In some other instances, you will watch guys shooting at nothing, or run blindly in front of your truck as it runs them over.
Even though this happened often, there were some other cases when the enemy AI was actually fine, even realistic. The only time when you feel like you are in the middle of a drunken bar is when you sneak up on enemies from behind or to the side. It would have been OK if it was only a 3 second reaction before they noticed I was there, but I stood firm for 15 seconds without any notice of my presence.
Another thing that could have been a little better was the in-game save options. You are only limited to a specific amount of saved games, and if you use them up, well then, you are screwed.
Multiplayer is also very cool. There are different game types, like Team King of the Hill, Search and Destroy, Attack and Defend, Capture the Flag, Flag Ball, and the typical Deathmatch. In all of these modes, there were a bunch of dedicated servers, but not nearly as much as Battlefield 1942.
Overall, Black Hawk Down is a great game that just needs a big patch to cover up it's AI problems.
