Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza

Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza

The Die Hard series has definitely been one of my favorites. Ruining the plans of all the European terrorists in the world is extreme fun to watch. Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza takes place in the Nakatomi Plaza building, just like the first movie. It has a lot of scenes from the movie, but it has a lot of different scenes too.

The Dreaded Architect Mission

In one mission, you have to rescue an architect because he is stuck in the building as a hostage. A terrorist who is smoking down the hallway must be killed, but his cigarette causes a huge fire once he dies. This mission requires that the architect be taken to safety. This must be the most annoying mission in the game, because whenever the architect walks out of a room, he is terrified to go anywhere because he is afraid of the fire. It took me over 15 tries to get this mission completed.

Graphics

Though there a few annoying missions and stupid goals in this game, the graphics look way better than I expected. I would have thought that on a game modeled after a movie, the designers wouldn't have put in too much effort because the game would sell itself. Nonetheless, the developers earn some credit for bringing some nice graphics to Die Hard.

Few Weapon Choices

Though the weapons in the game look detailed, there are not that many of them. There are only four primary weapons in the game. A pistol and other items such as frags are secondary weapons. When you want to change weapons, it is not as easy as just pressing a button. First, you must push a button to determine whether or not you want to select a primary or secondary weapon. Than, you must push another button to scroll through the primary or secondary weapon list. This can get a little annoying when you want to switch your weapon in a hurry.

Interacting with Your Surroundings

There are many things to push in Die Hard.

Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza

There are buttons to push, levers to pull, phones to call, vents to open, fans to turn off, and many more. This adds a cool sense to the game. It makes you feel like you are actually in a building with real resources that you can use. After you contact Powell (the police guy) you get to see all the police cars and ambulances whenever you look out the window. It makes you feel like you really did something...

Bugs

There are a few bugs in this game that can get really annoying. Whenever you want to go through a doorway, but you are not going through clean (your whole body is not facing the doorway, and some of your body is at an angle to the wall) the picture skips and it looks like you are going into another dimension.

Enemy AI

The enemy AI is tolerable, and they do not do anything extremely stupid. The one mission when I noticed terrible AI was during 'The Architect' which I talked about before. The hostage never seemed to understand that either he get a little burn, or he get shot.

Overall

Besides that, the game is a nice, easy single player adventure. With no multiplayer, you do get a little upset. That would've been nice... but hey! The price is right!
