Doom 3
Videogames don't tend to actually scare you; and when I say scare, I don't mean so bad they scare you; I mean actually making you jump out of your seat because of fright. Our best friends forever at Activision have finally released Doom 3. It's been all over computer gaming news sites for months, and has been talked about by just about anybody in the business. So what's the deal? Does Doom 3 deliver? In most aspects, yes; in others… well… I guess you'll have to read on, now won't you?
A Great Storyline
In Doom 3, you play as a marine new to the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) base at Mars. The UAC had an unlimited funding source and researches the most cutting edge technology in biological research, weapons defense, and space exploration. It's just a normal day, you undergoing training, when suddenly, something unexpected happens (you'll just have to play to find out what that is). Before you know it, there are mutated people and aliens running around the base, killing everybody in sight. So what are you to do? Well, fight for your life, that's what! With your crappy pistol in hand, you must defeat the bad guys and make your way to marine headquarters in order to get a handle on things and find out what you need to do next. The rest of the game has you playing throughout the Mars base trying to figure out what exactly is going on. Apart from this, a separate storyline will unfold with the scientific director of the Mars labs talking to some other guy… and well, you will see what goes on there. However, the second storyline is presented with tons of amazing video clips, where graphic quality truly shines. But we will get into graphics later. To sum it up, the Doom storyline is great, and it really gets you right into things.
The Three Disk Install and the Suspense
After you get your greasy paws on Doom, you will have to go through the three disk installation. Once the game is done, you anxiously double click the game shortcut, but not before turning off all the lights so you can really get into the game. Well shutup, I do it. Once you are done with the developer intro videos, you can start a new game and choose your desired difficulty setting. After the loading screen you are finally in THE DOOM UNIVERSE. As you move your mouse around in free spectator mode, it will take you a couple of minutes to grasp the full potential of this game.
Immense Detail in the Game and PDAs
Detail is important here. All around you, items are fully mapped and look quite amazing. Computers are usable. Yes, usable.

When you move your crosshairs onto a computer screen, a mouse will pop up, and you can actually click on things on the computer screen. This clicking will get you to open door, initiate chamber locks, etc. Sometimes you will even have to use a computer to control a lift system, using arrow keys on the screen and lower and higher buttons. Aside from interactive computer screens, Doom is chock full of idle workers or lab employees that are willing to give you a word about what's going down. If there is nobody alive in the facility, you are welcome to pick up the PDA's of those long and forgotten. A PDA carries on it audio and video logs, as well as emails of the long and forgotten. PDA's are a great way to learn about what is going on in the facility, and the early warning signs that led to the big disaster noted by the UAC workers. PDA's can also contain security key codes to open locked storage cabinets, as well as grant you higher access privileges to get into more classified areas of the Mars base.
Doom is About Killing Things
The first few levels of Doom have you fighting through the Alpha Labs sector of the base. Each level in Doom presents you with mission goals you need to accomplish in order to move onto the next map. In its most basic form, Doom 3 is a game about killing opposition to move through a level, only to do it again on the next level.
