Earth and Beyond
I have never really been into space MMORPG's, but when Earth and Beyond came out, I was flabbergasted. The graphics looked great, and the storyline even looked pretty cool too. Maybe this game would be really good?
Character Breakdown
There are 3 races in the game: Progens, Jenquai, and Terrans. Progens are the masters of combats, Jenquai are the explorer types, and Terrans are humans with the excellent business skills. There are six trades your character can be, which are Warriors, Defenders, Explorers, Enforcers, Sentinels, and Tradesmen. Each of these races has something different about them, and have abilities that the others don't.
Affecting the World Around You
You can leave your character out of everything and concentrate on leveling up and getting experience, or you can try and accomplish missions that will help you better understand the main idea. The central plot revolves around stargates, alien invaders, and stuff that is just basically causing a whole lot of trouble in your universe.
Playing on the Servers
There are 4 different servers which can each support a ton of different people (more then 750) at any time. I was playing on the Orion server and found that everybody was very nice to one another and did not curse at all. You can join with other people to create ‘guilds' (a community of people that work together in a group) and get bonuses to benefit your character. I joined the Strength and Honor Group. If you play together with different races and trades, you will overall be benefited because the game is created so that different professions will be able to help one another out.
Warping
If you want to move your ship fast to a point on the map, you must ‘warp' by selecting a destination on the map and than clicking the warp button on your HUD.
Warping can sometimes get very annoying because it can end up taking ¾ of your game time. There is no way to tell your GPS to warp to every point on the map, or to skip over a point and go directly to another. When you click a destination on the map, it simply creates a route for you that can go through as many navigational points as it wants. There is no way to add to this or skip over a point. You would have to go to one point at a time and than wait to recharge (which doesn't take that long, but can get annoying), and than do it all over again.
Asking for Help
The game is also created so that you can talk to people to ask questions about the game, or how to complete a mission. One thing I did not not like was the chat interface. It was really annoying to switch back and forth between talking to your guild and one person. Also, when you are not warping, and you are trying to move while talk, you cannot. Every time you press forward, it scrolls through the different things you have said. This was a real pain.
Once again, the chat interface problem comes up. When you want to talk to a person with the name DarthyBoy103563, you have to press /t (DarthyBoy103563).
PvP?
There is no player-versus-player (PvP) in the game's current release (the store bought game version), so you will be forced to fight drones, pirates, and space worms instead of people.
Overall
Overall, Earth and Beyond is a visually stunning game that newbie's will love and probably end up playing 40 hours every 10 days. Keep in mind though: no PvP.
