PROS

Tons of units, great multiplayer, detailed campaigns.

LOWS

Somewhat older graphics.

OVERALL

An awesome RTS that I will be playing for quite awhile. If you can take the fact that the graphics aren't amazing, you are in for a good time.

Empires: Dawn of the Modern World

Three Different Campaigns

Ah, the campaigns… There are three different campaigns you can do: the Richard the Lionheart campaign, the General Patton campaign, and the Admiral Yi campaign. As you can tell, each focuses on a different point in history. Each campaign is very different. The Admiral Yi campaign has many amazing water battles, while the General Patton campaign has very good strategy missions. The Richard the Lionheart was one of my favorites, because of its very detailed storyline and involving plot. Campaigns feature videos, which really make each mission unique. The Richard the Lionheart campaign featured one video I really enjoyed: a full video of an entire battle scene from start to finish. Unlike Age of Empires campaigns, which simply had a boring dialog before each missions, the videos really make the story seem interesting and make you want to play even more.

The Real Jewel of EDMW: Multiplayer

The best part of Empires by far is the multiplayer. When I first started playing, there was almost nobody who was ever online. Today there are about 100 people on as of 3:16 PM EST.

Empires: Dawn of the Modern World

Two months ago, I would've thought that was impossible. Because of the explosion in players, there are many more games to join. You can play action or empire builder games. Action is for you rushers, like me, who try and get an army as fast as they can to obliterate the other player. Empire builder has everything go at a slower pace, so an emphasis is placed on building up your empire. No matter what your preference, you will probably find multiplayer extremely addicting and exciting. Except when you run into a laggar… that's horrible.

Overall

I really must get back to my game. After reading this review, I hope you can understand my general perspective on this game. The multiplayer is excellent, the campaigns detailed, and there are so many units and possibilities that you can find something new everyday. My only disappointment was the graphics. They are not bad, but by today's standards, they are certainty not excellent. Nonetheless, for an RTS fanatic, you should really give Empires a try.
