Ghost Recon

Ghost Recon

You must have played one of Tom Clancy's classics from the Rainbow Six Rouge Spear series. Well if you have, and you've liked them, or you thought they were missing a little something, Ghost Recon may be just right for you.

In Game Saves: A Godsend

One of the things that I found the most annoying in Rouge Spear was that you could never save your game during a mission. I would have to try 50 times to just get out of the first mission, and I would start getting tired of the game, and eventually gave up on it. I mean, who wants to play a single mission fifty times over and over just to get it perfect? NOT ME. I wanted to kiss everybody at Red Storm for FINALLY making one of their games with IN GAME SAVES. This helped me out the most, because now I do not have to play missions over and over from the original starting point.

Graphics and AI

The graphics in Ghost Recon are very interesting, and on a good machine, they look great. When you have that perfect snipe, it takes awhile to finally shoot the guy because you can't stop looking at his detailed face and gun. The enemies have pretty good AI, and once you shoot, they get down to the ground or become alert. If you have sniped one guy about 5 meters away from another guy, it sometimes takes awhile for the other guy to realize his partner in crime has been shot. If you shoot at somebody, and you happen to miss, they will usually try and shoot at you, but might stop after awhile. This is neither good nor bad, because when this happens you always have the clean snipe again, but you might feel that you were given an extra chance to live, which may upset the realist folk.

Detailed Soldier Models

The soldier models in Ghost Recon are exquisitely detailed, paying attention to even the most minute details.

Ghost Recon

The soldier's face has the same basic structure, but each one has little details such as side burns to make the difference. Whenever I play multiplayer with my brother, I yell out “DON'T MOVE! “ and take a quick screen of his player's face. The character models are the most outstanding I have seen from the Tom Clancy series.

Awesome Arsenal

Along with character details, the weapons in Ghost Recon are thoroughly detailed and feature scopes and silencers. The one thing about weapons is that you can never see them in front of you while you play. This is definitely a pain because I think it would be much nicer if you could actually see your detailed weapon. The only way you can see weapons is by looking at your comrades or putting the game state into some weird 3rd person view which you cannot do anything in. Stupid...

Different Missions and Objectives

The missions in Ghost Recon are all different, and have different objectives. The maps all look interesting and have different objects to interact with. Some levels have river and streams, trees, bridges, and other include enemy tanks. The different map types add a nice variation to the game.

Replay Value

Once you beat the game, some campaign missions can be played over with different enemy locations and different objectives. Some of us may like this, but I however, do not because I do not really enjoy replaying games, even if they are a little different.

Overall

Ghost Recon is a great new step for the Tom Clancy games. It is a definite improvement on all previous titles, but it still leaves some things to be desired. This does not mean it shouldn't be purchased. You will definitely love this game, but be assured that when the next in the series comes out, we'll already have a good stepping stone.
