Grand Theft Auto 3

Grand Theft Auto 3

Grand Theft Auto 3. Where should I begin? The brutal beating of innocent people with bats? Picking up hookers and then killing them for cash? Sniping old ladies walking along streets? Or how about kicking the krap out of police and FBI officers after wiping out an entire block of people with a huge arsenal of weapons? Take your time. This, in truth, is what the fate of computer gaming has come to. Maybe what all of those crazy old guys in DC are complaining about is true. Maybe games like GTA3 are ruining our society as we speak. Who knows? Who cares?

The "Big Idea"

I will explain to you the overall "idea" of Grand Theft Auto 3. Complete different missions to get money and kill tons of people while doing it. Unlock all of the three islands, and then just roam around your world and kill people. That's it; that's the theory. Now a more in depth look upon the game...

Missions and Weapons

Missions will range from picking up briefcases full of money to killing a gang. You will be able to steal cars and beat people to death throughout the whole ordeal. All of the people walking on the street can be made into your targets.

Grand Theft Auto 3

You can kill each and every one using a different weapon, or you can just use your flame thrower to burn masses of people with ease. Weapons are; I have to say, pretty interesting. You have your typical machine guns, sniper rifles, but then you have the bazookas, flame throwers, bottle grenades, and other 'useful' items of torture. Depending on the amount of damage you cause to the world around you, the cops will have either a strict eye on you or just let you roam. If stuff gets too out of hand, be prepared for helicopters and FBI guys.

Islands and Graphics

The islands you can explore are all pretty different, and are distinguishable based upon the resident income level. Upper class neighborhoods look rich, lower class neighborhoods look poor, and middle class neighborhoods look middle class. Each island has different features, and going to each one will give you tons of new missions to complete. The graphics of the game are pretty nice. Everything is in great color and modelled in 3D.

Good AI

The pedestrians and gangs in the game have overall nice AI. Gangs will start to shoot at you once you arrive, or once you start shooting at one of the members. Pedestrians will run away from you when you start murder people, and sometimes you will come across a guy on the street that will fight back when you start to beat him up.

Music and Car Jacking

Driving in cars is one of the best things about the game. There are tons of cars to jack, and all look and drive differently. You can even enter into street races for money, which is another nice interactive aspect. The most fun thing about the cars is the radio. You can change radio stations, and listen to funny talk shows on chatterbox, and even listen to some funny half-way decent music. If you don't like what they give you, you can always upload some of your own MP3's and put them into the directory, so you can listen to Nat King Cole while you steal a car. Priceless.

Overall

Overall, GTA3 is a great interactive game. The only thing that brings it down so much is its horrible moral message. If you can understand the difference between reality and a video game, try it out. Regardless, play with caution.
