Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
You've heard of Battlefield 1942, right? Well, if you have played it and like it, you will definitely like its older brother, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It is a little different from Battlefield, as all the campaign missions are actually interesting to play! There are goals and objectives that must be completed in order to go onto the next level. This is more of a good single player game, while Battlefield 1942 is more of a good multiplayer game. I would suggest buying both of them nonetheless...
Different Missions and Objectives
Medal of Honor puts you in the shoes of Lieutenant Powell, an Allied soldier who has been assigned to a mission 'few would qualify for.' You must go and complete objectives to have Lt. Powell advance through the game. The missions have very cool and different objectives, and they are not boring and ordinary. Some objectives include protecting the tank crew, destroying 20mm flak guns, destroying weapon stockpiles, planting explosives in radio command posts, and cutting electrical power to fences. It's really cool to be in different places all over the world and have your mind set on interesting objectives that could've actually been real.
Weapon Variety
There are a lot of really cool weapons in Medal of Honor. Allied guns include the: Bazooka, Springfield '03 Sniper, M1 Garand, MP40 Sub Machine Gun, Bar Rifle, and a Thompson Sub Machine Gun. All of these guns have great firepower and detail.
Other weapons include the Colt 45, and Mark II Frag Grenade. I like to use the cheat that enables you all weapons in the game. If you use this cheat, you even get to use the German weapons such as the Mouser and Stg44. The Stg44 is a great gun, and is one of my favorites! I'm very glad that there is a cheat in the game that lets you use it.
Sharp Enemy AI
The enemy AI in the game is really good. Hostiles will act scared once a grenade has been thrown into a room, and they run out in fear. Than of course, I shoot them down. Enemies call out for all their comrades to come and help one they have detected my movement. This game uses the Quake III Engine, so I guess that explains it.
Superb Sound
The sound in this game is great. You can hear your teammates pain and the gunfire of the Nazis. You can hear the boat next to you getting blown up at Normandy and you can hear your fellow soldiers drinking water from their canister. This effect definitely adds to the games overall rating.
Multiplayer is Alright...
The single player part of Medal of Honor is great, but the multiplayer is another story. It is actually pretty boring. The maps and everything are nice, but you really need a lot of people. You can play with up to 64 people, but its hard to find that many for a LAN game. I prefer LAN games usually, because it is over your own network and is more private. You can also play with more people you know easier, because you only have to give them your IP address. Its much more fun playing with somebody you know than playing with strangers...
Overall
Overall, Medal of Honor is a classic that I recommend buying for its great graphics and sound and the wonderful single player campaign.
