Pro Race Driver

Pro Race Driver

Pro Race Driver is a racing game that has a plot, or at least tries to have one. This plot centers on a racer (Ryan McKane) that hopes to one day become the best racer in the world. Ryan's dad encouraged him to race, but unfortunately died in a race caused by another driver. The beginning video in the game opens up the story. It is the last lap of the race, 15 years ago in Michigan, and Ryan's dad is in the lead. He is rounding the last turn of the race when a British rookie comes almost side by side with him. The rookie "accidentally" crashes into McKane's car and sends him flying into the concrete wall, after McKane wins the race. McKane's car starts to catch fire, and trust me, it's not a pretty site when his car suddenly blows up. Ryan is so determined to become a great racer that he travels all around the world to tracks in places like Europe, Australia, United States, and Asia.

Single Player Racing Mode

Racing in the single player version is simple. You accept different offers through your "email." Essentially, your campaign data is stored in a computer where you have a fake email account that lets you read race offers which you can accept and decline.

Pro Race Driver

When you start to win in big tournaments, you get to move up in car classes. There are a ton of different racing types, like Alfa GTV Cup, Americas Series, Elite Championship A, Lola World Championship, and European Cup. Each race type has different cars; some have old Dodge Chargers, Mini Cooper S's, and a 1978 Corvette, while others have V8 Supercars. You will enjoy the nice variety of racing vehicles. The more races you win, the more advanced your cars become. At the same time, your opponents get better.

Subliminal Messaging...?

The game has a lot of cool features. Some of these include a detailed replay viewer, and a watchable TV in the free time room. The only reason they put the TV in the game was not for enjoyment, but to advertise their other game titles. Whatever…

Head to Head Action

The game has split screen mode which lets you and your friend race head to head in an exciting racing experience. I tried this mode and was extremely satisfied. It's not really the actual racing that gets you, it's the awesome damage model. My partner and I were having a ton of fun just ruining our cars.

Damage Model

Like I said before, the game has a great damage model. The fin falls off, the doors swing open, and your fender can get all busted up. It's a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Especially when your driver can drive with a missing wheel and door!

In a Perfect World...

This game does have some negative sides to it. When the difficulty level on the race is about 50% it is so easy to play, it's almost like your opponent's car is saying "hey look pass me, pass me!" If you put the difficulty percent a little bit higher, it gets harder and harder very quickly. The game also has some stuff missing like part add-ons and basic interior detail. That brings us to another negative point of the game: the interiors of the cars are all the same except for a tiny sign in the corner of the dashboard. The only car that has its own interior is the Mini Cooper! Now that's odd.

Overall

Overall, Pro Race Driver is a nice racing game that just a needs a little work to make it better. Because it has a plot, it's worth trying out if you are into racing games. Just beware of the difficulty jumps and the lack of interiors.
