Not so often in the world of computer games do we see one that involves FPS, strategy, and cunningness at the same time. The basic FPS's can be easily muscled through, requiring a gamer to only have to shoot people. But Rebels, haha no, this game takes a lot of patience and planning.
The cruel dictatorship led by a corrupt man named Friedrich has risen to power, crushing all opposition. Due to this, a rebel movement by the name of The Alliance of Rebel Movements has risen up to fight off the dictator. Not surprisingly, as the movement gains momentum, they are smashed to pieces. Friedrich found the movement, and personally came to the apartment where the rebels were. Now, four of them have been imprisoned in different institutions across the land. These four men (and woman) include Blake, Alexandro, Jeffrey, and Alicia. Jonah, the shaman from an African tribe, comes later in the game to offer his services.
Each of these characters has unique abilities, allowing them to better survive in their new location. For example, Blake can feign death, which has saved his life more than once in my game. The fact that there are individual and unique characters, along with different environments really makes this game ever changing. I love being able to enter a dingy German prison and wipe out some of Friedrich's men, then turn around to fight in the swamps.
Being able to control skills is also a really great addition to this game. Probably the best thing was the flexibility the game offered. You can choose whether or not to sneak out of jail, or just shoot as many idiots as possible! No more having to do exactly what the game was designed for; it's time for freedom in the gaming world!!! With this, it also shows how much skill the player has, being able to properly use stealth and stuff, rather than just fire a gun at targets. All in all, the mission mode of this game is a blast, and the graphics and details are to die for.
The coolness of these missions prompted me to want to try them with a friend, or play some random prison map that I had to get out of.
Sadly, neither of these options is available in Rebels. I mean, the campaign was great, but is there nothing else to the game?! So basically, after the long (fun) campaign, that's it. The game is pretty much over. The graphics, cinematics, and flexibility all go away, as you sit back wondering what to do now. “Play again?” You already beat it….
I really loved this game, but there is nothing else added to it. It would be like eating a great steak that was only 3 ounces, great but tiny. Maybe there will be a sequel or something? I'll be waiting...
