Silent Storm
Silent Storm. What does it mean? Beats me… How do you play the game? Beats me… Well, at least for awhile it did. After I finally figured out how to play Silent Storm, I learned what a cool game it really was. Until that point, Silent Storm was a colossal mess I didn't want to figure out. The first time I tried playing had been a complete failure. I tried the tutorial, but once I got to weapon training, I had no idea how to move, since everything was turn based. Go ahead… start laughing.
Figuring Out the Game and its Story
So one brave Monday morning, I completed the tutorial. It turned out that in turn based mode, you had to double click on your location to move. Ahh… now I get it… But really, once I understood Silent Storm, I was addicted. Even though I don't totally get the storyline, I don't care! That's right, I don't care! I have too much to worry about in this turn based RTS/RPG than to start thinking about what I am actually doing . Hell, when do I ever know what I'm doing?
I have salvaged out a basic storyline for Silent Storm: carry out secret agent type operations deep behind enemy lines with your handpicked and customized team of operatives. Sound good? Well it is.
A Great RPG Aspect with Character Customization
Silent Storm incorporates an RPG aspect into its gameplay that allows you to customize everything about your squad leader. You choose a main character to lead your squad from the pre made models available at start. If you are feeling adventurous, you can create your own character. If you choose this option, you are in for a plethora of options ready for customizing! Depending on whether you decide to play on the Axis or Allies, you can choose your nationality: Italian, German, Japanese, or American, Russian, or British.

You can also change your gender. There are six main professions in Silent Storm: sniper, grenadier, medic, engineer, soldier, and scout. You will need to construct a team of up to six people that contains a good variety of these positions. A character's skills will act accordingly to their job. Skills include shooting, melee, throwing, snipe, hide, spot, medicine, and so on. Your character also has customizable attributes: strength, dexterity, and intelligence. The real gem of RPG gameplay lies in these skills and attributes. As your character is used more in combat, they will be able to ‘level up' and then use their newly gained ability points to learn new abilities. RPG fans will go gaga over these options, especially since they are so customizable. Silent Storm does a good job of allowing customization if you want to use this feature. If you are really into it, you can go all out and create your own character. If you would like to get right into combat, you can go ahead and use a pre made character.
Not only do you get to customize everything about your squad leader, there are detailed aspects of the game that allow you to change every inventory item of each of your squad members. Since they will need a certain skill number in order to use each piece of inventory, you will need to assign your items carefully.
Going from RTS to Turn Based Mode
Now onto Silent Storm's RTS/turn based aspect. You command your squad in an RTS/turn based mode. Yes, it sounds very weird. I know. But once you learn how to play, its simple. When you are not engaged in combat, you will be in a typical RTS mode.
