Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
I don't know about you, but I seriously do not know how to skateboard. I can barely stand on the board without falling off, and I always feel that I will break my neck if I start to move. That is why I don't understand how people like Tony Hawk can do all these crazy moves in the air, and still be alive. I mean, some of these guys take their skateboards off a jump, and do a full flip. Just like that, head over heals. How can you do that? Even though I have always wanted to be able to skate in real life, I have found a solution that will not kill me! THPS3!
A Nice Starting Overview
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is truly amazing. There are tons of skaters, tons of places to go, and everything is CUSTOMIZABLE! You can change the shirts, the pants, the shoes, the socks, the hats, the glasses, the tattoos, the jewelry, any miscellaneous objects they are holding… anything! You can even create your own player and than send them into the game on their own skating career. There are a lot of things to interact with inside the game, including people. People yell at you when you run them over, and they cheer you when you do a nice trick. They also boo you, which can get extremely annoying…
You're Saying I Have to What...?
The objectives to complete in the game are fun, and are all different. Some include getting a guy's tongue unstuck from a pole (he's in Canada, so it is cold and his tongue froze to the pole), grinding various objects, dumping snow on bullies, and the traditional collecting letters.
There are _ tracks in the game. Each one is relatively big, and has tons of secret areas to explore. I would have liked to of seen some more areas, but I guess we can't get everything that we want in life, right?
I Want My Dough
Another thing I found a little disappointing was the fact that you cannot make money. Unlike the previous Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, you do not make money to buy special moves. Instead, you have a maximum amount of combos (there are only 8) available to you, and than you can pick from any moves in the game. I found this detracting from the game's overall value because I found it fun to have to earn money to get your special tricks. Now that you don't earn money, you can't buy boards. Instead, there are boards hidden in each area, so you just have to find them and ‘jump into them' in order to receive them.
You can still get skill points, and you do this in a manor of ‘jumping into them'. This method is fine, and I actually prefer it better than buying them.
A Game That is PLAYABLE!
Also unlike the previous Tony Hawk titles, this game is a lot easier. Normally, I wasn't able to get onto the 4th map playing THPS2, but with THPS3, I was able to unlock all the maps with minimal difficulty. This is a little disappointing because of the limited game maps, so by the time you beat the game, you will probably be begging for more.
Skate Park Editor
The traditional skate editor is included, which I still have not fully adapted to. You have to do everything within the game, and if you are using a controller, you have to make your park with the controller. There are a limited number of area maps you can choose for your park, and they are pretty small.
Multiplayer Modes
Multiplayer is fun because of the cool game modes. There is king of the hill, graffiti, or the typical ranking to see ‘who is better.' In graffiti, you have to grind and do tricks over all different types of things do get that object your designated color. Your opponent (s) can skate/grind over them to get it their color, and you can do the same. You do this throughout the whole map, and the winner is the one with the most graffiti.
Overall
Overall, THPS3 is a great skateboarding game and really has some fun things about it that a lot of people will probably enjoy.
