An awesome wrestling game that the PC has been waiting for. If only it had better graphics...
The one thing I have always thought to be pretty stupid was the fact that consoles have all of the fighting games. Virtua Fighter 4, Mortal Combat, etc. etc. We here on the greatest platform of all have almost nothing. Its about time a company like THQ came out with some sort of wrestling game for us PC gamers. And they did. Now we have WWE Raw, the game where you can watch videos of big fat guys slapping their butts and beating the living daylights out of other people.
This is typical WWF material. Play as all your favorite superstars and just beat each other up. Wield objects like chairs, ladders, and tables and smash them into your opponents face. Pin guys down, go to the top of the ringpost and slam down on a guy, or give somebody a kick right in between their legs. All this and more, in WWE Raw.
The best part I think about WWE Raw is playing with other people. You can play with up to four people at a time, and when you do, it's a blast. Imagine that you and three friends pick these wrestlers: The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Haku, and William Regal. When you play, you all sit at the same computer (as there is no internet or LAN play.) Somebody can use the keyboard, and you plug in three controllers. You get to watch each of the superstar's individual videos as they enter the ring, and you can switch between a video in fashion of the game's graphics, and a movie like video. This is all done by pressing one button, and the audio remains the same so you can be watching the animated Rock come in, and then switch to his real life video to see him in action. Each superstar enters the ring differently. Besides each one having two unique videos, the stage they enter upon is unique to them as well. Some have fire coming out of the stage, while others just light up the platform they walk upon with a variety of colors. Some even come out with props like motorcycles or shopping carts filled with various metal objects used to hit people. One thing I didn't like was that if a wrestler brought out a prop, I wasn't able to find it to use when I fought. Wouldn't it be cool if you could get on a motorcycle in the middle of the fight and run your opponent over? I think so.
Another awesome thing about entering the ring is that when an opponent starts to come in, you can interfere and run out on stage and start to whoop them. Once you do this, the match starts right there. Awesome.
Even though I haven't found a motorcycle, there are still plenty of objects to use.
Large tables, ladders, chairs, metal planks, stairs, and other more funny objects like a large fish. Some things you pick up can even be worn: sunglasses, a hat, etc. All this is great, and since you can fight inside the ring or anywhere in the arena, fighting can be really fun.
The different amount of moves that you can do in WWE Raw allow for a lot of fun. You can get opponents in a grapple (basically hug them so they can't move) and then start punching them or pick them up and throw them down. You can knock people against the ring post, kick with insane force, jump from the top of the ring post, and even pull people out of the ring and onto the floor. All of these moves are easy to operate, by using the keyboard and the directional arrow keys, or by using a gamepad.
