Apple iPod Third Generation -page 2-
Making Playlists on the iPod
Making a playlist is simple. Selecting tracks and holding down the center button create your “on-the-go” playlist. This is useful if you want to create a quick roundup of songs. You don't need to go onto your computer to make the on-the-go playlist, which is very convienent.. Your on-the-go playlist is not synced when you connect to your computer, and is deleted every time you connect. There is no way to make a permanent playlist while on your iPod. In order to do this, you must create it on your computer, and then sync it with the iPod. I really liked that the on-the-go playlist is so simple to create, as it allows you to easily make a roundup of all the songs you would like to hear for the day.
Battery Life
I found battery life to be somewhat of a disappointment. The iPod battery can last about eight hours, but you feel like you constantly need to charge it. The charger is built very nicely, just like everything else included in the iPod package.
Third Generation iPod Lock-Ups
Another disappointment was the occasional lock-ups I would experience while using the iPod. If I selected a lot of tracks to be added to a playlist, the iPod would sometimes stop and become hosed. At this time, I would have to reset the unit. This did not happen enough to make it a real issue, but it was annoying when it did actually happen.
The Headphones Included
The included headphones produce really good sound quality. They are ear buds, so some people might find it annoying that they have to stick all the way through your ear. Nonetheless, the sound quality is great, and the headphones look really cool matching the iPod's white exterior.
Fast Transfer with Firewire
Since the iPod comes with the super fast firewire cable, you will not have to wait to get your entire library loaded. If you do not have a firewire port, you can always opt for the slower USB cable. Since this is not included in the package, those of you who don't have firewire might feel a little upset. Well hey, its not Apple's fault if you don't have a firewire port. Get with the program! Er… right.
Third Generation iPod Accessories Available
Just to tie the whole package together, almost every company offers some type of accessory for the iPod. Everything imaginable exists for this thing, even a white bad made custom for it. Talk about weird…
Overall
To wrap everything up, I firmly believe that you can't go wrong with getting an iPod. Sure, its got its glitches, like not being able to make a permanent playlist on the unit and having a seemingly short battery life, but for the portability and features, the iPod is the best you can get.
