Logitech Cordless Presenter
Wireless mice are now rather mainstream, and most serious computer users have changed from the old fashioned wire system to a cordless mouse setup. Logitech provides a multitude of different mouse options, yet none as diverse as the Cordless Presenter. This device is designed to go through PowerPoint slideshows with the click of a button and also to allow you to implement the functions of a typical wireless mouse. To top if all off, there is a cool laser pointer included. Can it get any better?
Anybody that has ever presented a slideshow knows how annoying it can be to constantly return back to the workstation to click the mouse in order to move to the next slide. When you wish to go back, you even have to right click and select the back function. If you are trying to deliver a powerful speech, it is integral that you keep eye contact and focus on your audience; not the screen. With the Cordless Presenter, you no longer have to worry about operating the computer. Instead, you can keep your attention on listeners, and use the wireless Presenter to change back and forth between slides.
How the Logitech Cordless Presenter Works
Now onto how it works... To tell you the truth, it's quite simple. The Cordless Presenter comes with a mini receiver that can easily be attached to any USB port. The receiver itself is a small stick, transparent blue in color, and looks similar to a removable memory stick. If you wish, it can plug directly into the port and stick out from the computer. This option is ideal when using laptops, or when you are using a USB port located on your monitor or on the front of your computer. But just in case you have a hidden USB port, Logitech has included an extension cable.
You can plug the mini receiver into one end of the wire, and then plug the other end into your USB port. This adds over a foot of wire, so you can position the mini receiver in a more convenient location to receive signal from the Cordless Presenter device.
The Mini Receiver
The mini receiver communicates with the Cordless Presenter over Bluetooth, and is very easy to use. Like most Logitech wireless products, there is a connect button on the receiver and on the device. In order to locate the Cordless Presenter, you must press the connect button on the receiver. The red light on the receiver will stop blinking once you press connect on the Presenter, signifying that you have connected the two devices. The performance of the Cordless Presenter was flawless on connection tests; never did I have a problem not being able to connect to the receiver.
Mouse Mode and Presenter Mode
There is a switch on the Cordless Presenter that goes back and forth between “mouse mode” and “presenter mode.” Presenter mode enables the two larger silver buttons on the device, which are used to go forward and backward during a slideshow. In mouse mode, all of the buttons on the device are functional; causing the forward and backward buttons to become left and right click. In mouse mode, the scrolling buttons are also accessible.
