Age of Mythology
Age of Empires: The Age of Kings. What do you think about once you hear this title? A great game awesome gameplay...? Perhaps an inspiring title that spawned a great expansion, and was one in a series? Whatever you think of, you have heard of this game and have probably liked it. Ensemble Studios, the maker of the Age of Empire Series, has now created a new game, entitled Age of Mythology. This game has some amazing new features that any fan of Age of Empires should definitely check out.
Age of Mythology vs. Age of Empires
Age of Mythology does not have the same old Age of Empires engine: 2D graphics with no real 3D thrills. Age of Mythology is packed with awesome 3D graphics and amazing details. There are three different civilizations that you can play with: the Norse, the Egyptians, and the Greek. Unlike Age of Empires, you get to choose a god that your people worship. When advancing through the ages, (there are four ages like Age of Empires) you choose a minor God to worship.
House and settlement building is much different in this game than in the previous Age of Empires. There are settlement locations scattered all over the map, and there and only there can you build one. The settlement locations cannot be destroyed, and can be owned by any team. Even though the location of a settlement cannot be destroyed, the settlement on it can. In addition to your settlement locations, you can only build 10 houses. Therefore, there is a set population on the map, and even if you own all the settlements and have built your 10 houses, there is no way to increase it.
The Concept of Gods in Age of Mythology
Each civilization has 3 major gods, and 9 minor gods. This 'worshiping' is generated as a resource called favor. Each civilization has a different way of generating favor: the Greeks pray at temples, the Egyptians build monuments, and the Norse fight in battles. In addition, each God has benefits towards your civilization: like benefiting your villagers, Calvary, buildings, archers, etc. Another thing that each God has is a 'God Power.'

God Powers are mythical spells that can help your civilization offensively, defensively, or economically. Each minor god has a different God Power. The God Powers can only be used once, but can be saved when you advance to the next age. When choosing a minor god, it is important to review your situation (i.e. if you are being attacked or you are destroying a village) so you know which God Power would benefit you the most. Some God Powers include: turning your gatherers/dwarves into heroes (a hero is a special unit like in Age of Empires that can influence an army with something like a 'battle cry.' In the picture, my enemy turned my units to ice! Heroes usually have a lot of health and once they die, can regenerate and be used again), summoning the Norse Dragon from it's lair, smiting enemies with a storm from Olympus, preventing an enemy from training new military units, summoning serpents to defend the sea, having meteor showers, and transforming a Town Center into a citadel.
