A huge single player mode awaits you in the new installment of Deus EX, just get ready to put up a fight.
Eidos has outdone itself with the new Deus EX game. It's graphically beautiful, has awesome AI, a great single player game, tons of options, and is a blast to play. Even though it can be a bit overwhelming at times, Invisible War still gives most fans what they have been waiting for.
In the new installment of Deus EX, you will play as Alex Denton, a new recruit at Tarsus Academy, a school to teach you how to become an elite antiterrorist and special op soldier. At the start of the game, you are based in Chicago, the place where you grew up with your foster family. Suddenly, the Tarsus facility is under attack. You have no idea what is going on, and nobody wants to let you know what exactly is happening. Before you know it, you are rushed to the Tarsus facility in upper Seattle, “just to keep you safe.” Well, what about Chicago? Too bad it has been destroyed in this latest terrorist attack… Well, there go your parents… Now that you are in Seattle, you learn from your peer Billie Adams that Tarsus has been spying on everyone, and that the recruits are nothing more than test subjects. To add on to the confusion, a group called the Order, which is a fanatical religious group, just decided to take control of the world. Too bad they just kind of… well blew up Chicago. Not knowing who to trust or where to go, you leave the Tarsus facility, and enter the city… but not before you stack up on some biomods.
Biomods… stupid name, awesome purpose. What these things actually do is make your character “upgraded.” Think of biomods as computer upgrades for people. You want a bigger hard drive? Open up the case, and install it. Want a better graphics card? Sure, just upgrade your 4X AGP card to a nice 8X AGP one.
Want to jump higher? Just get the biomod. Want to get an invisibility cloak? Sure, just try a biomod. I think you get the picture. You have five slots available for biomods, and you can choose which kinds you would like. You can go with an active biomod, which drains your bio energy and must be activated. The biomods I typically use are passive, as you don't have to do anything to get them to work. Based upon what kind of player you are, you can customize a character with a slew of different options. Make a bold fighter, upgraded on all aspects of strength. Make a silent assassin, invisible to all and quick. Whoa, so this is kind of like an RPG mode for Deus EX? Exactly. Now we have a great FPS with a bundled RPG element to it. And since you can level up all your traits and change all of your character's abilities, I think it's safe to say Eidos has done a good job incorporating this RPG mode.
Also to be found in single player mode are a slew of weapons. Since encountering enemies is realistic, you will be playing with some pretty sweet weapons. For starters, there is your standard pistol that doubles as a flashlight.
Let me first point out that all of these weapons are futuristic, so a pistol is more of a space style laser gun thingy. Next up is a standard looking shotgun, and the last normal type of weapon, a rocket launcher. Now we get into the more interesting guns. Have you ever heard of a Spider Bomb? Well, I'm sure you haven't, but they are very cool. They actually fire out a spider that will attack the nearest enemy. Groovy! The boltcaster is sort of like a crossbar, but it launches an electric bolt that does poison damage to the person hit. One of my favorite is the noisemaker, a makeshift bomb. Once activated, the noisemaker will make some obscure noise and attract attention of soldiers. Within thirty seconds, KA-BOOM!
