Savage -page 2-

Savage

With this gold, you can buy various items like invisibility cloaks, medikits, mana potions, a sixth sense to reveal invisible enemies, power to erupt fire from a warrior's body, summoning the power of the wind to protect you, and many other imaginative choices. You can also buy weapons. For the humans you have powerful crossbows and machine gun like incinerators. All of the weapons are different and have different uses. For the beasts, the weapons are more centered around rough melee. You have powers that take the place of weapons which allow you to gain an advantage in combat; like carnivorous, tempest, and lightning. The wide range of weapons for both classes allows you to use a great RPG like interface to select and fit your warrior.

Like mentioned earlier, there are two ways to play Savage. One is the FPS mode, which you will probably be using for most of the time. In this mode, you play as a warrior who is tasked with destroying the other opponent's forces.

Affirmative Commander

There are only two players on the entire server that can play as commander. On each team, a commander manages the teams resources, technologies, and workers by using a traditional RTS interface. The commander can give other players orders by selecting them and telling them to move, attack, guard, build, or collect resources. Unlike bot units in a typical RTS, players don't have to listen to you. Being Commander, you can always demote their rank or call votes against them. You can reward players that are being good with gold that they can use to buy themselves more weapons and items.

Savage

Players may also request that you allow them to use higher priced items, and you can choose which things to allow them to have. These requests can become frequent, and you can put on auto request and allow every request to be approved. This all depends on how much gold you have, so don't run yourself into bankruptcy. Essentially, being the Commander is the best. Be warned: you better know what you are doing. If players think you are messing up their game, they can easily impeach you. Playing as Commander was a lot of fun for me. Just imagine it as if you are playing Age of Empires and the people you are ordering around are real.

Not for the Solitary

Savage features no single player component, so you need to be online at all times. I think if there had been a nice little single player campaign where you got to play as the Commander and a warrior, the game would be much better. Since you almost never get to be a Commander, it would help to get a little practice at ruling over your base camp.

Spawn Times

When you die as a warrior, you get to spawn back using a Battlefield 1942 like interface. There are long spawn times, so get ready to do some annoying waiting.

Overall

Savage is an interesting game. Its great to be Commander, even though you never really get to do it. Being a warrior is also fun, but it is kind of like a hit and spawn attack. You can get through killing one guy, then die on the next attempt, and then spawn and start it all over again. If you can take the steep learning curve because of the lack of tutorials and the absence of a single player campaign, you might find Savage to be very amusing.
