Soldner: Secret Wars -page 2-

Soldner: Secret Wars

To me, single play was nothing more than a practice mode for multiplayer, a way just to get a quick game in and to exercise my skills with dealing with the vehicles. There are tons of tanks, helicopters, and airplanes, so the choice is really yours. The only other interesting option in single player is to use the PDA. Soldner has the option of making you ‘commander' in multiplayer games, but for single player, you can have control over a PDA. Here, you can see a satellite view over all of your soldiers, and then see their vital info. You can give your soldier orders from here, instead of giving them typical gestures.

Multiplayer has a Good Concept, but...

Multiplayer is what Soldner brags about the most on its cover. And it has its rights. Soldner multiplayer is very fun. There is a huge emphasis on team gameplay, similar to, but more so, than Battlefield 1942. You will have to coordinate with team members in order to accomplish goals, or just to locate enemies and eliminate them. There are tons of strategic locations placed all over the maps.

Soldner: Secret Wars

It's great to hide out in a huge building in your enemy's base, and pick off enemies as they run around trying to find you. You can then talk to your team and suggest an artillery strike, so you can catch your enemy while they are preparing to strike with tanks as well. Strategy is necessary. The only problem I found with multiplayer was that a lot of the Official servers were unstable, and would lag. Also, there were not a lot of people playing online. Games were rarely full, and this didn't allow for such lively gameplay filled with team members. Otherwise, multiplayer incorporated the same extensive vehicle and weapon base single player did, and that was a big plus.

Commander Mode

One thing I liked about multiplayer was commander mode. If you are designated the commander on your team, you have the option of going into commander view and looking at the battlefield from a 3D point of view. You get to see the location of all of your troops, their vital stats, and then plan out what you would like them to do. Being commander is good, as long as you can gain the respect of your teammates…

Just a Few Minor Problems...

Soldner is plagued with some minor problems. For instance, vehicle physics are horrible. Tanks could crash into trees and just bounce off. Driving in general was hard, because you need to move the mouse whenever you move your car. When I was playing with a partner, I found driving to be easier. But if you are playing alone, it will just take some getting used to. Another annoying thing was the sound. Every time you click on something, or a menu loads, Soldner feels it necessary to remind you of its name; SOLDNER. SOLDNER. SOLDNER. Every time you click, this deep male voice: SOLDNER. Shutup!!

Overall

All in all, Soldner could be a great game. What it really needs is a good patch to correct its annoying issues. Nonetheless, its single player is still horrible. Multiplayer is good, but the patch is really necessary to make it a great experience.
