TRON 2.0

Meeting NPC's

You will also encounter NPC's like Mercury and I-No. Even so, the game is mostly puzzles. When I say puzzles, I mean making sure stuff is aligned in a certain order, turning knobs so things rotate in the correct fashion, and so on. If the game had less of these and more varied mission types, it would be much more than a pretty face.

Light Cycle Races

To take a break from the annoying puzzles, you can also compete in light cycle races. This is not your ordinary race; you aren't actually racing anywhere. The point is to survive longer then any of your opponents. Whenever your bike moves, it creates walls that once crashed into, ‘derezz' you and and cause you to lose the race. When you 4 or 5 people racing, it can get pretty cool because at some point, everybody will have to get close to each other and turn off somewhere so they don't get killed. This mode is fun, but it's not the best. You can compete in light cycle races as a single player campaign by itself, but light cycle racing will also be encountered during the normal part of the single player campaign.

TRON 2.0

When you play in normal light cycle racing outside of the single player campaign, the most you can do is unlock a new color for the two bikes available. Not that much to look forward too. On the tracks, there are also never any real obstacles that you can use to enter a new part of the track. Tracks are usually just large grid areas separated by spaced out walls with acceleration pads, deceleration pads, power-up moves (Run over a power up to use it's ability. Abilities range from turbo to a defensive shield.) and the occasional box that once crashed into, will lead to death. There are never any jumps, winding turns, uphill/downhill slants, or loop-de-loops. For a futuristic race, I was expecting at least one of these things to be included.

Technically Speaking .... Sound and AI

The game is pretty much bug free. At first, my sound wasn't working right, but I discovered I needed to update my nForce 2 audio drivers. After this, it worked perfectly. The AI is overall excellent; there are just a few problems I'll point out. Whenever an enemy spotted me, I would run behind some corner and wait for him to run right into me so I could destroy him. This is a good sign of AI; the enemy would follow me until he killed me. Ok, so fine, that's all good. But what about when there are two enemies at the same time? Usually when I am on one side of a wall, my two enemies will split up and set up a vice: one gets me from front, the other from my back. Sometimes however, when two enemies found me and chased me into a corner, I would use my shock rods to shock the closet one, but the other one just stood there and watched. Immediately after the first one was killed, I would go onto the second, and he wouldn't do anything throughout the entire process. AI problems like this need to be corrected in a patch.

Multiplayer Modes

Multiplayer is not so great. There are three modes: light cycles, disc tournament, and disc arena. The light cycles are just like the single player game except its with real people. This mode might entertain you for a little while, but overall, I didn't find it too exciting. Disc arena and disc tournament are simple: derezz (kill) your other opponents. The maps are great just like in the single player game, but you are limited to only using your disc. These modes can get boring for me; disc shot, jump, disc shot, jump, and so on. Even though it looks great, both disc tournaments and light cycle races are too repetitious for me.

Overall

TRON 2.0 is an awesome game. The graphics are great, the voice acting superb, and the enemy AI is overall excellent. The only problem is the constant annoying puzzles filled with jumping and turning knobs. Even though, the game looks too good and has too many awesome weapons to not be great. Pick up TRON 2.0 if you want a beautiful peace of eye candy and think you can take the annoying puzzles.
